Cedar Fence and Retaining Wall Give This Yard Real Structure

Some yards don't need a complete overhaul - they just need the right bones put in place. That's exactly what this one needed. The slope along the property line was uncontrolled, the boundary wasn't defined, and there was zero privacy from the neighboring property. Not a great setup for actually enjoying your outdoor space.

We started by building out a concrete block retaining wall to hold back the grade and create a clean, level edge along the fence line. Getting that foundation right is the part most people don't see, but it's what makes everything above it look sharp and last long. A retaining wall that's properly built doesn't just sit there looking nice - it's doing real structural work every day.

Once the wall was in, we ran a full cedar privacy fence along the top of it. Cedar is a solid choice for this kind of application. It holds up well in wet climates, it looks great fresh, and it ages naturally over time without falling apart. The framed panel style we used here gives it a clean, intentional look rather than just a row of boards nailed together.

The combination of a retaining wall at the base and a cedar fence on top does a few things at once. It separates grade levels cleanly, it gives the yard a defined edge, and it creates real privacy - not just partial screening. The yard went from feeling open and unfinished to having actual structure you can work with.

This is the kind of work that quietly adds a lot of value. You stop thinking about the fence line and the slope, and you just get to use your yard. That's the point.
